  20. 1.  What is RPN Calculator?
  21. --------------------------
  22. It is a powerful calculator for Windows 95, whose User Interface
  23. is used for offering a remarkable flexibility combined to a great
  24. wealth of functions unusual for products of this category.

  26. RPN stands for Reverse Polish Notation, a logic alternative to the
  27. classic Algebraic notation: since the RPN can be unknown for most
  28. of the users, the help includes a brief description of it.

  30. Why RPN and not Algebraic notation? 
  31. Although the second one is more diffused, the first is better
  32. for resolving complex expressions and could be faster when you
  33. become experienced.

  36. 2. Beta Release
  37. ---------------
  38. The version shipped with this file is not definitive: 
  39. it means that although I tried to eliminate all bugs, certainly
  40. there are some errors that I haven't found; for eliminating most
  41. of these, I need that RPN Calculator is used for every-day work
  42. and in different configurations, so I have distributed this beta
  43. test version.
  44.  
  45. There are some particular things that you have to know before using
  46. this beta:
  47.     - it is a fully functional copy, however it will work only
  48.       until September 1996.
  49.     - I've tested RPN Calculator only on systems running
  50.       Windows 95, so I don't know how it will work on 
  51.       Windows NT 3.51 or superior or on Win32s 1.3 or superior.
  52.     - I don't know what bugs could be, so I can't exclude that
  53.       in particular systems RPN Calculator could cause even
  54.       severe damages: do *NOT* install this beta if the
  55.       security of your system is critical for your job. 
  56.       I can't assume the responsibility for any improper 
  57.       behavior of this software (see the License).
  58.  
  59. If you choose to try RPN Calculator, I would like to receive 
  60. the list of those bugs that you will eventually find and your 
  61. impressions about it.
  62. I am particularly interested on these questions: 
  63.     - how the software works on those systems that run 
  64.       Windows NT or Win32s
  65.     - if there are grammatical or syntax errors 
  66.       on the help system
  67.     - if the help is good enough
  68.     - every incorrect behavior of RPN Calculator
  69.  
  70. Important!
  71. If your suggestions will be useful for me, I will send you the 
  72. registration code of the final release of RPN Calculator for one 
  73. user, for FREE!
  74. To allow me to send you the code, insert your name and (eventually)
  75. the name of your company.

  77. Note: if your suggestions will be useful (for example if you report
  78. a bug), but someone else have notified the same things previously, 
  79. I will *not* send you the free Registration Code: in other words, 
  80. the choice of sending or not the Code is up to me only, and it 
  81. could *not* be discussed.
  82. This offer will expire when the final release will be shipped.

  84. Second Note: the final release of RPN Calculator will be sent
  85. on the same FTP sites where you found the beta; it will be limited
  86. in some way and these restrictions will be overcome using the
  87. Registration Code.

  90. 3. How to install
  91. -----------------
  92. Simply copy the content of the archive that you have received in
  93. the directory that you prefer (for example, 
  94. C:\Programs\RPN Calculator), then add a link to RPNcalc.exe.
  95. It's all, folks!

  97. Note: I have not inserted an automatic procedure for installation,
  98. because the archive would be much bigger (3 or more times!).

  101. 4. How to uninstall
  102. -------------------
  103. The procedure for uninstalling is simple, but if you are not an
  104. expert of Windows 95, I suggest to accomplish only the first step.
  105.  
  106. 1st) Deleting the files
  107.     - Delete the whole directory in which you have put 
  108.       RPN Calculator (for example, C:\Programs\RPN Calculator).
  109.  
  110. 2nd) Removing the configurations of RPN Calculator
  111.     - Open the Registry Editor, that is the program RegEdit
  112.       which is positioned in the directory C:\Windows
  113.       (or similar, depends on which O.S. you have in your
  114.       system: you can eventually find it searching for 
  115.       Regedit.exe)
  116.     - Double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  117.     - Double click on Software
  118.     - Double click on SCSoft
  119.     - Remove "RPN Calculator for Windows 95"
  120.     - Close the Registry Editor
  121.
